The liminal space is the space in which learners refine and reformulate their ideas, developing more accurate conceptual understandings. Developmental theory highlights the periods of greatest personal growth are thought to line in the unnamed and poorly-defined period’s between stages. Therefore, the most significant aspects of learning lie not in the outcome of learning, but in the process of learning. Understanding this process and how best to facilitate it is a key role of educators. For learners, it is important for them to be aware of this space and recognise their feelings related to the unknown. This awareness ensures they are able to regulate their emotions during what may be a troublesome period in their learning. It is important for learners to be aware of the liminal space as it allows them to be more open to others ideas and perspectives, critically analysing them and reasoning their thinking.
