As the weather is warming up, we have been learning about animal safety, particularly snake safety. Living in small rural communities and the pre-school being located within one of the communities, over Summer, we get some unwelcome creatures and it is important for the pre-schoolers to be as prepared as possible.
This week, we utilised a range of books, particularly information texts, that looked at different animals and their characteristics, discussing that spiders and snakes a poisonous and can be quite dangerous.
We were luckily able to utilise members of the community this week within our program. We had one of the pre-schoolers grandparents come and share their knowledge and skills, talking about snake safety. Next week, we will have someone coming from Wild Care to also talk about snake safety, but they will be bringing along some of their friends for the pre-schoolers to look at.
Throughout the week, we hid a snake in the playground so that the pre-schoolers had the opportuntiiy to put their skills into practice! Hopefully the pre-schoolers are more prepared for the potential risks that this Summer brings, they are definitely more aware!
